County Releases Building Permit for Chediak Lot

It was found that the engineering firm representing Chediak submitted an inaccurate site plan -- they were off by over 55 feet on the northern boundary of the lot.

County Puts Building Permit On Hold for Chediak Lot

Earlier today, Indian River County staff put a hold on further construction on the Chediak property because of inaccuracies found on the submitted site plan for this property.

Chediak Lot Stripped

The Chediak lot (Evelyn Shea's former lot) has been stripped of foliage, an 8' concrete retaining wall is built on the west property line and truckloads of fill have been brought in. Here's how the lot looks today.

Early Summerplace Families Retain Attorney

Attorney Michael O'Haire, whose client was John Morrison that platted the Summerplace property in 1960, has been retained by long-time Summerplace residents.

Chediak Septic Drainfield Poses Pollution Risk to Our Beach & Ocean

Chediak's septic drainfield is located just 25' from the seawall and poses a serious threat of sewage leaching from this home's 5 toilets and additional waste from this house onto our beach and into the ocean.

Building Permit Issued on Incorrect Site Plan

The Chediak building permit was issued and based on a submitted site plan that is contrary to the Summerplace recorded plat plan, the property's deed, and County tax records. 

Septic Drainfield Permit Violates Public & Sea Turtle Health

Attached please find an email from the Indian River County Health Dept. to the Florida Dept. of Health (Bureau of Onsite Sewage Programs) documenting concern about a drain field to be located “only 25 ft from the ocean-side of the seawall.   During high tide, the ocean was at the base of the seawall.”  The State of Florida advised issuance of the permit contrary to concerns by the local Health Dept.

Chediak House

At the bottom of this post are plans of the Chediak house which will be built on Evelyn Shea's old lot. We all really miss seeing Evelyn's beach house (pictured here) perched on the dune and snuggled in the tropical foliage. Evelyn would cry if she saw what was happening to her beloved Summerplace.
